I am one of those “strange” people who have always loved school! I like to learn/teach new things about the world. When I was 12 years old, I organized “summer school” for all of the neighborhood children. I have always loved being around kids and seeing the world through their eyes.
I have been a 6th grade teacher at a suburban public school for 21 years. During this time, I have always taught science. But, throughout the years I have taught other subjects as well (reading, writing, social studies, and math support). So, I feel comfortable with most subjects.
My undergrad is in Liberal Arts from Northern Illinois University. My graduate degree is in Teaching & Learning from DePaul University.
I have three amazing children. My older two girls are now young adults. My “baby” is a 13- year old boy. The range of experiences that I have had with my children also adds to my confidence teaching all learners. One of my daughters was a gifted student and the other had learning challenges. And my son is right in the middle as a learner. As someone who school came easily to, this has forced me to see learning from different ends of the educational world. All kids can learn. Sometimes we just learn differently than other, whether we are gifted, have educational struggles or are somewhere in between. We all (even adults!) benefit from being met and challenged at our individual level. I am looking forward to working with you and your child!
