Jo Callaghan, M.A. Teaching
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”- Saint Augustine
This quote describes my two loves: travel and education. Having spent part of my college years studying in Madrid, Spain, I fell in love with traveling and learning about the world through the people I met. I spent the first 17 years of my career in the international travel business. In addition, I have lived and studied in Guatemala. In 2001, I returned to school and obtained a Masters in Teaching degree, so I could share my knowledge with others. I began my teaching career developing curriculum that I taught to children ages 3 to 6. In 2004, I began my middle school teaching position that I currently hold today. I have taught 7th and 8th grade reading and language arts for the past 15 years. In addition, I have taught introductory foreign language, applied technology, and I direct our school musical. I also teach English to Chinese children, ages 3-12, online. In the past four years, I have assisted students with college essay writing and I have helped complete applications for students that have been accepted to the University of Florida, University of South Carolina, Arizona State, University of Georgia, and the University of Tampa.
I reside in the Western Suburbs of Chicago and I am the mother of two college age children. Having worked with students age 3-18, qualifies me to work with students of all ages. I look forward to working with you and your student to develop an individual plan that meets your child’s needs.
